What does an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist Do?
Supports Bacardi Leadership Team and EHS Manager in fostering a proactive safety culture and leading Environmental Health and Safety initiatives at Bacardi Jacksonville Facilities. Develops, implements, and oversees safety, health, security, environmental compliance, and sustainability programs while ensuring ongoing compliance and certification. Effectively leads, trains, and develops Bacardi team members.
About You
You hold a BS degree in a relevant field such as Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, or a related discipline, or a BS in another field supplemented with certifications in EHS (e.g., ASP, CSP) or Industrial Hygiene (e.g., CIH). You bring over 5 years of EHS experience and are passionate about leveraging Business Intelligence, analytics tools, and Industry 4.0 technologies to enhance safety and operational performance. You are self-motivated, dependable, and adaptable, with strong attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills.
With our consumer at the heart, your key focus will be
EHS Programs and Compliance
- Support a proactive, preventive safety culture by modeling safe behaviors and reinforcing expectations across site teams.
- Support the site Process Safety Management (PSM) program by assisting with PHAs, MOC reviews, audits, and implementation of PSM elements related to assigned areas, under the direction of the PSM Lead.
- Monitor daily operations and conduct inspections, safety observations, and assessments to ensure compliance with internal EHS standards and external regulatory requirements, and support implementation of corrective actions.
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of EHS programs, procedures, and policies related to occupational safety, health, environmental compliance, sustainability, and security, as directed by the EHS Manager.
- Deliver effective EHS training to individuals, small groups, and large teams to build awareness and drive engagement.
- Assist in the integration of EHS principles into operational processes by supporting site initiatives and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain safety, health, and environmental KPIs and analyze data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of environmental and safety permits and reports required by local, state, and federal agencies.
- Support emergency preparedness, response, and evacuation planning activities.
- Assist in maintaining the site’s EHS Management System by participating in internal audits, updating SOPs, tracking corrective actions, and contributing to management reviews to ensure compliance with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
- Support regulatory programs such as SARA, EPCRA, HAZCOM, and industrial hygiene monitoring, with oversight from the EHS Manager.
- Facilitate EHS-related employee engagement activities, safety committee meetings, and communication campaigns.
- Assist with Workers’ Compensation case documentation and coordination, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
- Adapt to evolving regulations, changing site needs, and EHS team priorities.
Risk and Incident Management
- Support incident investigations by gathering facts, contributing to root cause analysis, and tracking corrective and preventive actions.
- Conduct or assist with risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and workplace inspections to proactively identify and address hazards.
General and Administrative Support
- Assist with plant security oversight and serve as a back-up resource for emergency management or contractor supervision as needed.
- Travel and work flexible hours as needed to support EHS program execution.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support EHS goals and ensure site compliance.

- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask in fast-paced, rapidly changing environments.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment
- Strong project management, time management, and follow-through skills under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as a committed team member or leader.
- Adaptable and flexible to work variable schedules, including off-shifts and weekends.
- Technically proficient in standard business software and digital tools.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and drive informed decision-making.

- General office equipment, supplies, personal computer, computer software, Microsoft Office, SharePoint, SAP, reference materials regarding safety, health, and environmental issues
Environmental Conditions:
- Work is performed in a temperature-controlled environment and in a production facility where dust, fumes, heat, cold, noise, and vibration exist; and in outdoors environment where seasonal elements and weather elements can exist.
Corporate Citizenship/Responsibility:
- Participate in and support the Bacardi Facilities Business Continuity Plan as needed
- Adhere to all environmental, health, and safety guidelines and regulations
- Promote and support the Bacardi Corporate Quality Policy
- Promote and support the Bacardi Corporate Social Responsibility Program
External Qualifications (Degree, Certification, Additional Training)
Minimum Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree; Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, or related field preferred.
Minimum Experience:
- Minimum of 5 cumulative years of experience in Occupational Safety, Process Safety, Hazardous Waste Management, Wastewater management, Air Permitting, Environmental Engineering- Program Management in an industrial environment (e.g. OSHA, EPA, DOT, IATA, NFPA, etc.)
- ISO Lead Auditor Training or equivalent course or on the job experience. Must be either completed in the last three years or the incumbent must complete within the first year in the role.
Preferred Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the spirits production/manufacturing industry
